Wrongful Incarceration

My human rights were stripped from me
and with it went my dignity.
You took more than I had to give,
left me with just my breath to live.

I did not step across your line,
I lived in peace and thought it fine,
but you flexed muscles in my face,
because I was a different race.

You kept me in isolation,
brought your scheme to full gestation;
my eyes could none familiar see,
the sounds you made were strange to me.

I wondered if you knew my name,
the one that you had brought to shame,
or did you simply blink your eye
when in my fear you saw me cry?

The thing you failed to understand,
is that I’m safe e’en in your hand;
the hands and eyes that hold me dear
belong to One Who knows no fear.

You may not know my Father Lord,
may think of Him as made-up thought,
but He is truer than your bars,
His hands have bled with countless scars.

Those hands that held Him to a cross
does not count human life as loss.
He cares for you as much as me
and counts these bars trivially.

They locked my brother Peter up,
our Father saw his bitter cup,
and needing him to speak freely,
He gave him back his liberty.

Paul too, can testify to this:
that life may not always be bliss,
but when the Spirit lives in me,
I’ll go where He needs me to be.
